- How difficult is the Deer Feeder Helper to install?
-
The Deer Feeder Helper easily installs with four self drilling screws. Each unit includes four self drilling screws for metal barrels and four toggle bolts for plastic barrels. (Installation Instructions)
- Can the Deer Feeder Helper be used with protein pellets?
-
Absolutely, we engineered the device with an oversize hole to promote the feeding of protein pellets. Also, if your spinner plate does get a clog due to moisture on the pellets, it is easily remedied. You also have several configuration options such as removing your broadcast timer and replacing it with a gravity tube for feeding protein or adding a container device such as a bucket and trough over your existing timer, which by the way is the recommended method by game biologist and is the most cost efficient means of feeding protein. This encourages deer to eat the protein when the feeder actuates thus preventing untargeted animals such as raccoons and feral hogs from consuming your feed.
- Which barrels and feeders will the Deer Feeder Helper fit?
-
The Deer Feeder Helper can fit almost every feed barrel and feeder mechanism. You can also mount any other attachments such as solar panels for your timers. A list of known compatible feeders may be found here.
- How can the Deer Feeder Helper save me money?
-
The control-valve alone provides many money saving opportunities. You can close the control-valve during any feeder maintenance, saving you endless amounts of corn or protein. You can also off load your corn from your feeder in a controlled manner if desiring to relocate your feeder to another location. You can shut-off the flow of corn if you're leaving your hunting area for an extended period of time. You can also easily convert your broadcast feeder into a gravity type feeder, alleviating the cost of buying an additional feeder. Also, off-loading a feeder prior to moving it may prevent possible damage such as bent feeder legs and/or damaged solar panels.
- Will varmints eat or destroy the plastic?
-
Through intensive field testing, we have yet to see evidence of varmints harming the Deer Feeder Helper. We feel, by design of being a closed system, the varmints are discouraged from attempting to gain access to the feed and simply choose to not chew on the Deer Feeder Helper for no reason.
- How durable is the Deer Feeder Helper?
-
The Deer Feeder Helper is made of extremely strong, UV resistant ABS plastic. Chosen for its strength properties and its workability in the field. In its normal operation it is very strong; however, it is not indestructible. For instance, if your feeder is toppled over by livestock, cows will very likely destroy it and your timer in an attempt to get to the feed. We suggest to always anchoring your feeder to the ground even if not using the Deer Feeder Helper.
- Will the Deer Feeder Helper work on my feeder?
-
We have found that it easily installs on most deer feeders and accommodates most timers. However, it does not work with feeders utilizing internal components such as Sweeney or Lamco feeders. Please see the list of feeders that the Deer Feeder Helper will work with.
- Will the Deer Feeder Helper accommodate varmint guards?
-
Varmint guards come in many various sizes and shapes. We have found that most varmint guards fit very nicely. We do encourage the use of quality springs to keep your varmint guard attached to either the barrel or your Deer Feeder Helper.
- How do I use solar panels with the Deer Feeder Helper?
-
We recommend mounting solar panels directly to the timer housing, eliminating any exposed wiring where failure is likely to happen anyhow. Solar panels may also be mounted to the bottom portion of the Deer Feeder Helper; this ensures ease of operation and function of the Deer Feeder Helper allowing you to get the most from your investment. We advocate the theory of each bottom section of your Deer Feeder Helper with all its attached accessories (timer, solar panel, and varmint guard) be thought of as one unit. This system allows for easy maintenance, switching timers, and storage of timers during the off season.
- What exactly does the Deer Feeder Helper do?
-
The Deer Feeder Helper mounts between the barrel and timer mechanism and allows for quick and easy access for unclogging, replacing, and/or repairing your deer feeder.
- How big is the Deer Feeder Helper?
-
The dimensions are 13" x 13" x 4".
- How was Deer Feeder Helper created?
-
The owner and experienced Texas hunter, Chris Nicholes, designed and developed the Deer Feeder Helper. It has been extensively field tested and is patent pending.
